  • Biography:

    Michelle Zangara is a seasoned professional who has worked in the arts all her life right here in New York City. Her career in music started by opening for Rod Stewart in a Power Samba Band, Pe-De-Boi. Pe-De-Boi enjoyed great success in TV, Films, Theatre and Tours in Japan and throughout the United States. Sounds of Brasil a NY Downtown Hotspot was created with Pe-De-Boi in mind. Club venues jockied for the band from Blue Note to CBGBs. Bob Giraldi (Michael Jackson's videos director) made Pe-De-Boi the star of the "Charlie Girl" Perfume commercial, featuring Michelle Zangara playing sourdo. New Yorker and Villiage Voice reviewed performances at SOB with much praise. Pe-De-Boi produced an album on Arkadia Records entitled: Power Samba Band, Pe-De-Boi." Michelle composed an original song entitled "Samba Summer" for this CD along with english lyrics for "Copoeira." Pe-De-Boi became the house band at Sounds of Brasil for the first three years of its inception. During this time, Michelle finished her BA at Fordham University at Lincoln Center in Theatre.

    Michelle was also a recording artist with Polydor Records. "Do you wanna lover, a Latin Lover?" hit the billboard dance charts in 1983 at 78 with a bullet and reached 28 with frequent rotation on all radio stations. Find this recording on youtube. Michelle Zangara was background vocalist on this cut and performed this popular dance/house hit in all dance clubs, TV and special performances in New York City.

    Michelle has been an actor/recording artist all her life creating characters on stage and film and recording with nile rogers, madonna's producer, along with rick williams and xica jool. She is also a member of Equity, AFTRA and Screen Actor's Guild. See Film/Theatre/TV credits on her website.

    Presently, Michelle still pursues her acting career and performs with her trio around the city in jazz clubs and restaurants: most recently at Limeleaf, (128 west 72 street, btw B'way/Columbus Aves.)
