Born in Minneapolis, Jill spent her childhood and teen years in Canada. She attended Humber College in Toronto, where she performed solo piano and with several local bands at the city's top jazz clubs. Upon winning a Canada Council Grant, she relocated to New York City for private studies in jazz at the New School for Social Research.
In 1995 Jill secured first place in the 13th Great American Jazz Competition for her "deeply rooted jazz sensibility. In 1993 she was a semi-finalist in the Thelonius Monk Competition at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. She had earlier won first place in the New York City finals of the prestigious Cognac Hennessy Jazz Competition in 1990, which culminated in a performance in the national finals at the Hollywood Palace in Los Angeles.
Jill has worked with such notable artists as trumpeter Randy Brecker, tenor saxists
Ada Rovatti and Don Braden, guitarist Rossell Malone, alto saxist Vincent Herring, drummer Sherri Maricle's DIVA, bassist Harvie S. and others. Venues have included Dizzy's Jazz Club Coca Cola at Lincoln Center, Small's Jazz Club,The Blue Note, Shanghai Jazz, Knickerbocker, Tavern on the Green, Iridium, Metropolitan Cafe, and Cleopatra's Needle. Her performances have taken her throughout the U.S. and to Europe, South America, and Japan.
Monday through Thursday evenings Jill performs solo jazz, vocal, and classical selections and on Fridays with her jazz trio at the Harvard Club of NYC, and plays for Sunday brunches at the Hilton Garden Inn in Staten Island. She is also in high demand both as a soloist and with her combos at various popular restaurants, night spots, and private engagements in NYC, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Jill has recorded two CD's of her own to date, one of which features her arrangements and singing, accompanied by the wonderful guitarist Joe Cohn. The other is a solo/duo effort which includes cuts with the great Jon Burr on bass, and some classical selections.
In April 2008 Jill is scheduled to cut a full length CD at Bennett Studios in Englewood, NJ. This will feature a quartet including Joe Cohn, bassist Pat O'Leary, and drummer Anthony Pinciotti. She intends to write and arrange, and to feature her vocals with the guitar trio on several of the selections.This CD should be available in early fall/08. She also has a tour slated with the quintet of famed trumpeter Randy Brecker in Germany at the end of April.
